Dear Colleagues,

Argument from evidence is seen in a number of Next Generation Science Standards but it is something that students continually struggle with. Come and join Susan Holveck (OSTA President Elect), Caitlin Everett (Beaverton STEM TOSA), and Jomae Sica (OSTA Region 1 Director) in a workshop focused on developing this skill in students.

In the workshop we will show you how to apply the jigsaw approach to an inquiry investigation so that groups have different variations of variables, which produce unique data sets. This creates a student centered classroom environment that values the work done by each group and ends with a class discussion centering on making a claim about the observed phenomena with supporting data and then using this knowledge to make a prediction, just like scientists do! We will break out into grade level bands to highlight this process for an elementary, middle, and high school NGSS standard.

When registering, please register using the grade level you teach at so we can differentiate the learning experience for you.
