Why is the playground slide so hot sometimes and not other times? Can I do something to move my toy across the room without touching it the whole way? How did these holes get in this leaf?

Take part in an engaging, relevant and free hybrid workshop series tailored specifically to kindergarten teachers on supporting all students in experiencing rich language use and rigorous science called for in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELP).

Developed by the Beaverton School District, this professional development opportunity will build capacity and excitement for teaching NGSS aligned, phenomena based kindergarten units around NGSS storylines helping students answer questions such as: Does the sun warm all surfaces the same? Do all toys move the same? Do all living things need the same things? How do you know? How did you find out?

This hybrid course will include:

  • One full day workshop in August, with two mid-year online support sessions.
  • One half-day workshop in the Spring with one online support session.

Specific time is built into each session for work time and discussions on how to support all students meeting all the unit standards and targets within each participant’s unique school situations.

Experience scientific inquiry and engineering design and increase your capacity to teach the NGSS through a collaborative community of practice!

PDU's will be provided to attendees, and graduate credits will be available.
