The Next Generation Science Standards have the power to revolutionize K-12 math learning and teaching with their focus on equity, phenomena-driven learning, three-dimensionality, and more. Whether you are an elementary educator teaching multiple subjects, or a STEAM educator at any grade level, this webcast will explore what math educators can learn from the NGSS. You will leave with some tasks, instructional routines, and formative assessment practices that can be implemented in your classroom right away!

Presenter: Andy Byerley is the Math Assessment Specialist with the Oregon Department of Education, and has been a proud educator in Oregon for the past 12 years in the Newberg, Forest Grove, and Hillsboro School Districts. He has served as a middle and high school math and science teacher, a Teacher on Special Assignment, an instructional coach, and an administrator. His love for teaching came out of his first career as an engineer (which somewhat helped justify the student loan debt!). Andy’s educational passions include building strong relationships with students and educators, bringing educators together in community to share practice and learn together, and honing the practices of formative assessment among educators and students.

This event is open to everyone, OSTA Member or not. However, we respectfully request that if you are, or have been, an OSTA member, that you log in to the website before registering for this event. Signing in before registering saves our organization time, so we thank you!

One PDU will be provided for attending, contingent upon completing an exit survey.

This meeting will be hosted on Zoom. You will receive an email with the meeting link after you register. If this is your first time using Zoom, you will need to allow yourself a few minutes to download the app here:
