This session will focus on computational thinking and modeling with elementary students, including English learners. First, we will describe our work developing Science And Integrated Language Plus Computational Thinking and Modeling (SAIL+CTM), a yearlong fifth-grade NGSS-aligned curriculum that integrates computational thinking and modeling for all students, with a focus on English learners. Then, we will report findings from implementing SAIL+CTM with fifth-grade teachers. We will conclude the presentation with considerations and suggestions for integrating computational thinking and modeling into science instruction in your own district, school, or classroom.
Presenters: Alison Haas and Okhee Lee, New York University
